Aloha to Radiant friends old and new,

I am reaching out to express that I have been blessed with the most amazing life ever

and why I want to gift my experiences of wisdom back to the world.

A Little History…

I was not expected to live at birth. Born partially paralyzed due to radiation exposure in utero, I could not hold my head up, swallow, or breathe on my own. There was no expectation that I would live. This became a magnificent gift. Because I could not fully live in my body, unable to form “normal” social connections, my deepest relationship was my connection to Spirit. Therefore, I grew up without the usual indoctrination that most children receive. Most of the time, I was in complete bliss and in love and from that place of wild joy, I could make up my own rules. With Spirit being my constant companion, I was able to live in complete bliss despite the paralysis and physical pain, and eventually overcoming many of the limitations imposed by the radiation poisoning.

During my college years, my future husband entered my life. He both pushed my wheelchair and pushed me to accept the most magnificent versions of myself. Long before we knew we would marry, he was already embodying a depth of unconditional love, patience, and devotion that would shape the foundation of our life together. When he returned from Vietnam as a deeply traumatized combat photographer, we made a quiet but unwavering vow: that our marriage would serve as an antidote to war and violence.

The Family Years

That vow expanded into a living practice as we grew together and raised (legally adopted, guardianship, left on our doorstep) over 40 children who had experienced profound abuse and trauma. Our children gave us the living laboratory for unconditional love. We became the first designated nonprofit family ever to exist so that we could offer classes to help prevent abuse and share what we had learned with the world.

After those incredible children took flight (some of them raising their own children, as well as now being foster parents  themselves), I went into thirteen months of silence. I felt that I had talked endlessly for the twenty-two years of raising them and now I so needed to just be silent. But eventually, I couldn't keep the love that radiated through me quiet anymore and so we formed another nonprofit school where we taught adults who had come from abuse. Our school was named S.O.U.L., School of Unconditional Love.

A Turning Point

After living a very full and rich life, decades of raising children, teaching, and building programs, I imagined retiring into writing and online teaching, focusing solely on sharing what I had learned. Then came 2020. Four separate bouts of COVID, a profound impact on my health, and a confrontation with my own mortality brought clarity. I realized I did not want this body of work to exist only in pages or digital space. I wanted to create a living environment — a physical, breathing community — that would continue long after I have ascended. Not only ideas or teachings, but land, structure, and a place that would provide continuity. If there truly is another way to live, it must be embodied somewhere — visible, accessible, and real enough to touch.

Because of health challenges, we moved to Maui and began building this community, teaching that there really is a different way to live. We formed another nonprofit to explore our wildest dream of Permaculture/Balance at every level. Permaculture of the earth... permaculture of relationships... permaculture/balance of body and spirit.

LIVING TO LOVE , LOVING TO LIVE.

And Now…

With the teachings of love now rooted in so many hearts, I was called to the most magical island of Kauai to both write books and help Living Radiance find permanent roots. It is time to establish a Center where I can work with those who I believe will be the base of profound change in the world: teaching and supporting adults who were abused as children and are now striving to live lives of joyous purpose.

Yet I have no desire to create another institution; I understand that transformation does not begin in systems but in the home, where the way we live with one another quietly shapes the world. This is why the Living Radiance Home/Center is not simply a project, but a living legacy — a place where this way of living can be practiced, felt, and carried forward for the next generations. The great news is that we can only accomplish this with your love.

When we were raising the children, we had a sign on our door:
